A ”speaking” brooch senses as you approach the wearer, and calls, “Don’t judge me by my appearance.” A contrast arises between a brooch, an item that seeks to establish a statement through appearance, and the vocal request to refrain from any judgment based on looks. When jewelry asks this of us, what is its role and what should this jewelry look like?
